The Supervisory Board of 3. Maj Must Propose a New Management by Monday

Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polančec today mandated the Supervisory Board of Shipyard 3. Maj to propose a new composition of the Management by Monday, November 10, as reported by the Ministry of Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship.

Polančec discussed the current problems of the shipyard and the union’s request for the dismissal of the Management during a meeting with members of the Supervisory Board and unions operating in 3. Maj. Although Polančec stated to reporters during his visit to the Croatian Employment Service that he does not support the union’s request for dismissal as he believes the focus should now be on preparations for privatization, the unions convinced him at the meeting to accept their request.

Polančec also told us that he is against dismissals, but we informed him of the workers’ firm stance that they will go on strike if the entire Management is not dismissed, said Ozren Matijašević, president of the Croatian Union Association, to Hina. The Deputy Prime Minister previously stated that he is also not satisfied with the activities of the Management of 3. Maj as the company has no contracts for the production of new ships, which means that the shipyard will have no work from May of next year.

We need to focus on preparations for privatization, and as the responsible minister, I have engaged in finding solutions for liquidity and specifically contracting jobs for 3. Maj, Polančec stated. The next meeting of Polančec with representatives of the Supervisory Board and unions is scheduled for Monday, November 10, when the Supervisory Board is expected to present a proposal for the new Management of the shipyard.  (H)
