Two Suspects in Pukanic’s Murder on the Run

Five individuals have been suspected of the murder of Ivo Pukanic and Niko Franjic, two of whom are on the run and whose identities the police have not officially revealed so far. However, according to media reports and unnamed sources close to the investigation, they are Željko Milovanović, a former member of the so-called Red Berets, who is also charged with war crimes in Slavonia, and Bojan Gudurić, a member of the so-called Novi Sad robbery gang.

Milovanović is a 42-year-old former special forces operative of the Special Operations Unit of Milorad Ulemek-Legija. He hails from Beli Manastir and is a citizen of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to media reports, he is known by the nicknames “Red Wind,” “Gavro,” and “Flyer.” His likeness is on Interpol’s wanted list, as well as on the wanted list of the Osijek County Court, which is seeking him for war crimes against civilians.

Media reports that Milovanović participated in a spectacular robbery of Delta Bank in Belgrade in 2003, from which 1.5 million dinars were taken at that time.

Media reports that he participated in a spectacular robbery of Delta Bank in Belgrade in 2003, from which 1.5 million dinars were taken at that time. He has managed to escape twice after being arrested, once from a Belgrade court and the second time from a prison in Kula. In addition to the Osijek court, courts in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Subotica are searching for him due to murders, robberies, kidnappings, and thefts.

The other fugitive, 27-year-old Bojan Gudurić, was a member of a Novi Sad criminal group suspected of robberies in Novi Sad, Sombor, Sremska Mitrovica, and Srbobran in 2004 and 2005, Croatian media report.

According to information from the defenders, Robert Matanić denied guilt to the investigating judge and made himself available to USKOK and the police.

Unlike Milovanović and Gudurić, the Croatian part of the five-member group suspected of last week’s assassination of Pukanic was arrested two days ago and has been in custody at the Zagreb prison in Remetinec since this evening. This concerns cousins Robert and Luka Matanić and Amir Mafalani, against whom a judicial investigation has been initiated. According to their defenders, Robert Matanić denied guilt to the investigating judge and made himself available to USKOK and the police, while his cousin Luka and Mafalani remained silent. (Hina)
