Slovenian Investment Funds Without Major Withdrawals by Investors

Although the total portfolio value of Slovenian mutual investment funds decreased from 1.9 to 1.4 billion euros from the end of last year to the end of August this year, there have been no significant occurrences of small investors withdrawing, as stated in today’s business supplement of the Slovenian daily newspaper “Delo”.

"Most investors are investing for the long term and are not interested in short-term inflows or outflows," said Robert Kleindienst, director of investment funds at Nova Ljubljanska Banka (NLB), in an interview with the newspaper. The largest Slovenian bank, and its investment funds, have not experienced significant attrition of investors, who withdrew only 5.3 million euros in September."All our mutual funds have a high degree of liquidity, and that will continue to be the case," Kleindienst asserted, adding that their funds have diversified portfolios that protect investors from significant losses."Delo" reports data from the state regulatory agency for securities indicating that there are 126 mutual investment funds based in Slovenia, as well as another 139 similar funds based in other countries. Only in Slovenian funds do 360,000 investors have their assets, and a significant expansion of funds has been recorded over the last three years. Although the average investor has no more than a thousand euros in them, their highest value at one point was around three billion euros, according to "Delo".  (H)
