No one is safe today, not even the President of the French Republic, Nicolas Sarkozy, writes Le Journal du Dimanche on Sunday, which published a story about skilled thieves who have obtained the bank account number of the head of the French state.
"It involves small amounts that have disappeared from the president’s account," said a source close to the investigation, noting that Sarkozy filed a report in September, and the chief prosecutor immediately discreetly mobilized the criminal and financial police.
The possibilities for stealing bank account credentials online are numerous, with the greatest opportunity for thieves arising during online purchases. The number of such frauds has increased by nine percent in the last 12 months. Banks explain that once someone obtains your credentials, they can afford anything online.
"However, they do not withdraw large sums and spend on items worth up to 200 euros so that the account owner learns later that they did not actually purchase everything as it appears in the bank statements," explained the same expert. (H)
