Readers of the British newspapers Guardian and Observer have ranked Croatia this year as the third best among European tourist destinations, with Switzerland taking the first place for the second consecutive year, and Sweden in second place.
This was reported today by the Main Office of the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ), and according to the website of the mentioned newspapers, the best global tourist destinations were selected and rated in an annual survey conducted by these newspapers, in which about 17,000 readers participated. The winners were announced and awarded one of the most significant British travel-related awards, the “Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk Travel Awards 2008”. The award ceremony took place last weekend in the city of Fes, Morocco, organized by the Moroccan National Tourist Office, with the presence of more than 100 representatives from the tourism industry from almost all over the world, as well as journalistic teams from the Guardian and Observer. Last year, Croatia was ranked tenth on the list of European destinations according to reader ratings, and this year it has ‘left behind’ Austria and Italy, which are in fourth and fifth place, respectively. The top five best global long-distance destination countries for the readers of the mentioned British newspapers are New Zealand, Peru, Cambodia, Japan, and Vietnam, while among global cities, they are Sydney, Krakow, San Francisco, Singapore, and Vancouver.
