French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Sunday, just before the start of the summit in Paris, expressed his desire for European countries to “adopt an ambitious, coordinated plan that will bring concrete solutions” regarding the financial crisis, reported France Presse.
"I expect an ambitious, coordinated plan that will bring us solutions", said the President of the EU while welcoming European Commission President José Manuel Barroso in Paris. The two politicians met before the extraordinary session of heads of state and government of 15 eurozone countries to jointly decide on measures to be taken to address the financial crisis. Finance ministers from the seven most industrially developed countries in the world announced an agreement on coordinated measures to assist banks in distress and efforts to unblock the banking market, but did not report on specific steps.
Sarkozy and Barroso are also expected to talk with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, whose country is not part of the eurozone, before the summit. "We will talk to the British Prime Minister to explain to him what we will propose to the eurozone members. On Wednesday, we will try to guide all of Europe along the same coordinated and ambitious path. I expect Europe to speak with one voice", said the French President. The European summit, which will be attended by 27 representatives of European countries, will take place on Wednesday and Thursday in Brussels, preceded by today’s summit of representatives from 15 eurozone member countries.
