The winners of the competition for the new passenger terminal at Zagreb Airport, Branko Kincl, Velimir Neidhardt, and Jure Radić, presented their project today in Zagreb. – We are equal authors, and our project is the result of the synergistic work of a large number of professions and a large number of experts – emphasized Radić.
The new passenger terminal will make Zagreb Airport a top-notch world airport and a first-class feature of the modern identity of Zagreb and Croatia. Velimir Neidhardt stated that this is a global success, as Croatian architects have not had the opportunity to compete in a tender with such strong and renowned competition so far.
– The terminal, covering an area of 70,000 square meters, is designed to accommodate 5 million passengers annually and the largest aircraft, including the Airbus A380, which is currently the world’s largest passenger plane. It will have 12 bridges for passenger boarding, with the possibility of expansion if traffic at the airport increases – said Neidhardt.
The authors paid special attention to the energy efficiency of the building, whose photosensitive cells will be able to generate significant amounts of energy, which will be further saved by ventilated facades and walls. – By collecting rainwater from 640,000 square meters of airport and terminal roof area, it is planned to obtain 540,000 cubic meters of water annually in five decorative lakes, which is enough for the terminal to have water for 280 days a year, emphasized Branko Kincl. Jure Radić particularly highlighted the system of load-bearing trusses that supports the building’s structure, which, as he said, is an innovation by local authors that is expected to be confirmed in foreign projects.
