China Will Collaborate to Calm the Markets

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao stated that Beijing is concerned about the impact of the crisis in the U.S. financial market on its investments, but also that now is the time for cooperation to calm the markets.

"U.S. finances are closely linked to Chinese finances," Wen said in an interview that aired on CNN on Sunday.
"If anything goes wrong in the U.S. financial sector, then we are also concerned about the safety of Chinese capital," he said, adding that now is the time to "join forces" to resolve the crisis."Cooperation is everything now," Wen said in an interview recorded last week. He stated that Beijing still believes that the U.S. economy has "solid foundations, especially in high-tech industries and basic industries," but that it wants it to become more stable. (H)
