60 million euros for the reconstruction of the Vinkovci-Tovarnik railway section

More than 60 million euros will be invested in the reconstruction of the Vinkovci-Tovarnik-state border railway section, with works starting tomorrow on the section from Đeletovci to Jankovci, the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure reported today.

This is the first project of this magnitude in Croatia financed from EU pre-accession funds, specifically from the ISPA (Instrument for Structural Policies for Pre-Accession) pre-accession program. The Ministry notes that the mentioned EU funds (38 percent of the total project value) are non-repayable and that the tenders for this were conducted in accordance with public procurement rules for assistance to non-EU countries.

They also emphasize that this is the first project to co-finance investments in railway infrastructure in Croatia from pre-accession funds. The reconstruction of the railway section between Vinkovci and Tovarnik will include works at stations and stops on the line, on the tracks, the arrangement of railway-road crossings at grade, and a new traffic signaling and management system. The construction works will be carried out by the company “Salcef Construzioni Edili e Ferroviarie SPA” from Rome, while the traffic signaling and management systems will be installed by “Bombardier Transportation Italy” in consortium with the Italian company “SITE SPA”.

The Vinkovci-Tovarnik-state border railway section is located on the Croatian section of the X. pan-European transport corridor (from Salzburg to Thessaloniki). The section from Đeletovci to Jankovci, where the reconstruction will take place, is 33.5 kilometers long, and trains currently operate at speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour. After the reconstruction, trains will be able to run at speeds of 160 kilometers per hour on this section. As announced, the reconstruction works will be ceremonially opened tomorrow at the Đeletovci railway station by the Ministers of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, and Finance, Božidar Kalmeta and Ivan Šuker, in the presence of the head of the European Commission Delegation in the Republic of Croatia, Vincent Degert.  (H)
