Croatia and BiH Build Bridge on the Sava

The State Secretary for Infrastructure, Zdravko Livaković, today initialed a joint statement with the Minister of Transport and Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Božo Ljubić, regarding the construction of a bridge on the Sava River on the section of the pan-European road corridor 5c between Svilaj (HR) and Odžak (BiH), as reported by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.

The statement emphasizes the significance of corridor 5c for both countries and anticipates the construction of a 760-meter-long bridge, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2012. By then, 5 kilometers of highway should be constructed on the Croatian side, from the Sredanci interchange at the junction of the 10th and 5c pan-European corridors to the bridge on the Sava, while Bosnia and Herzegovina should complete 11 kilometers from the Sava to Odžak.

Since this is a joint facility being built by Croatia and BiH, the financing of the bridge construction will be equally divided between the two countries. According to the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Croatia plans to complete its part of the 5c highway corridor by the end of 2012. The section from Đakovo to Osijek is expected to be completed by the end of March 2009, and the remainder to Beli Manastir by the end of 2012. The section from Sredanci to Đakovo is already in operation. (H)
