Interior Minister Berislav Rončević stated tonight in the central news program of HTV that the arrests in the “Index” operation are a result of the Government’s anti-corruption strategy, from which no one is exempt.
"This Government has clearly stated that it has a zero tolerance policy towards corruption", said the minister, adding that because of this, no one can be exempt from the criminal offense attributed to them. Commenting on yesterday’s attack on the CEO of Industrogradnja, Josip Galinac, the third similar incident in just three months, Rončević dismissed claims that problems in the police are resolved through personnel changes without concrete results.
"There are also open cases, work is being done on them. There is no police force that has a 100% resolution rate", asserted Rončević, emphasizing that overall statistical data for the first nine months of this year show that crime has decreased by three percent and that the resolution rate has increased by 1.2 percent.
He added that he does not feel responsible for the attack on Galinac and that he is not surprised by the SDP’s demand for his resignation. In that demand, he believes, there is no political credibility, as such events also occurred during the term when the interior minister was a member of the SDP."The fact is that another brutal crime has occurred. We condemned it both as a Government and I as a minister, and the Croatian police will do everything to find and bring the perpetrators and instigators of this act to justice," said Rončević.(H)
