Attack on Galinec is an attempted murder

The beating of the CEO of Industrogradnja, Josip Galinec, in a parking lot near Vukovarska Street has been classified by the Zagreb police as an attempted murder.

The police are intensively searching for two unknown perpetrators who attempted to kill Galinec with a metal rod around 3:20 PM yesterday in the parking lot next to the Ministry of Economy while he was walking towards his car. It is reportedly about younger, slimmer men who fled towards the Hotel Internacional after the beating, while the victim remained lying in blood.

Zagreb police spokesperson Aleksandra Ljuba refused to comment on possible threats that Galinec had received earlier, but stated that the police are analyzing all data and events and will provide more detailed information when possible. She did not want to comment on possible motives for the attack, the third in Zagreb in the last three months. Media speculate that one of the reasons could be his plans to purchase certain companies on the stock market, including a minority stake in the company he heads. Additionally, it is reported that Industrogradnja is involved in about 4,000 lawsuits, and it is also written that Galinec was blackmailed by members of the Zagreb underground while he was a broker, demanding several million euros in commissions from stock sales.

Galinec reportedly had personal bodyguards recently who were not with him at the time of the attack. So far, it is officially unknown what injuries the 36-year-old entrepreneur, who became known to the business public at the end of the last decade when he became the director of brokerage operations at Zagrebačka banka, sustained in the attack; he was seriously injured, but neither the police nor the Clinical Hospital of Sisters of Mercy wanted to disclose the nature of the injuries.

Unofficially, it is learned that the injuries involve head trauma and open fractures of the legs. The director of the Sisters of Mercy Hospital, Krešimir Rotim, stated that according to the Patient Rights Act, he has no right to provide any information about a patient without their consent. Industrogradnja, which Galinec has headed since 2006, announced that they would issue a statement regarding the attack on the CEO during the day. (H)
