Former Minister of Croatian Veterans and HDZ Member of Parliament, as well as the legendary Vukovar surgeon Dr. Juraj Njavro, passed away this morning, it was confirmed today by the Association of Croatian Volunteer Doctors of the Homeland War 1990-1991, of which he was the president.
Juraj Njavro was born on July 2, 1938, in Cerovnica, and graduated from the Medical Faculty in Zagreb, while he is publicly known as the legendary surgeon at the Vukovar hospital when he remained in the Vukovar hospital until the end during the siege of the city in 1991. After being freed from Serbian captivity, Juraj Njavro served as Minister of Health in the government led by Prime Ministers Hrvoje Šarinić and Nikica Valentić, and in the government of Zlatko Meteša, he was the Minister of Croatian Veterans from the Homeland War. He also served as a Member of Parliament for HDZ and a member of the Programming Council of Croatian Radiotelevision. The time and place of Juraj Njavro’s burial will be announced later. (H)
