Matković: Particularly significant progress achieved in the field of justice, public administration…

Bianca Matković, the State Secretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MVPEI), stated on Friday to her Swedish counterpart Frank Belfrage that particularly significant progress has been made in Croatia in the areas of justice, public administration, the fight against corruption, and the return of refugees, as reported by MVPEI.

Belfrage, the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, who is on a working visit to Croatia, discussed with Matković the accession negotiations of the Republic of Croatia, the situation in the region, the economy, and the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to Sweden. Matković informed her counterpart about the progress made so far in the accession negotiations, the dynamics of legislative alignment, and the achievements in the processes of Croatia’s accession to the European Union, and thanked Sweden for its continuous support to Croatia on this path.

As reported by MVPEI, Matković emphasized that particularly significant progress has been made in Croatia in the areas of justice, public administration, the fight against corruption, and the return of refugees. Regarding economic cooperation, both interlocutors expressed a desire to strengthen it. In recent years, trade exchange has reached its highest level, Swedish investors account for a large share of foreign investments in Croatia, and Sweden is Croatia’s largest trading partner in Scandinavia, Matković stated.

The two countries have very good and friendly bilateral relations, and Matković mentioned that the accession negotiations of the Republic of Croatia should be technically completed in the second half of 2009, during the Swedish presidency of the EU. State Secretary Belfrage asserted that Croatia will continue to have Sweden’s support on this path. Belfrage also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandroković and with the State Secretary for European Integration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Željko Kuprešak.
