People should eat less meat if they want to contribute to the fight against climate change, said Indian Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in an interview with the British daily Observer on Sunday.
Rajendra Pachauri, who shares the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and has been dedicated to environmental protection for decades, believes that people should gradually give up meat. According to this economist, changing dietary habits would be an important step in combating climate change, as greenhouse gases harmful to the atmosphere are produced in livestock farming.
"First, give up meat one day a week, and then gradually reduce its consumption," recommends this vegetarian. "I want to emphasize that we need to spend less in every segment of the economy," he added. (Hina)
