HZZO: there is no talk of abolishing laboratories in health centers

The Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO) in today’s response to media reports that the director of HZZO, Većeslav Bergman, proposed the abolition of laboratories in health centers emphasizes that there is no talk of any idea to abolish laboratories operating in primary health care.

HZZO states that the Institute cannot make such a decision, "but the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare decides on this matter."

"In a letter that Dr. Bergman sent on behalf of the Croatian Health Insurance Fund to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on July 10, 2008, it was intended to point out that in some cases there are deviations from the established staffing norms, and that it is necessary to regulate staffing norms in certain primary health care laboratories where losses have been incurred over a longer period," the statement says.

HZZO holds that from all this, "a completely erroneous conclusion has been drawn, and the warning regarding the need to regulate staffing norms in no way points towards the abolition of laboratories at health centers." (Hina)
