Gay pirate radio station on the same frequency as air traffic control

A pirate radio station in Hong Kong has been ordered to cease broadcasting after it was found that its program aimed at a younger gay audience began to interfere with the frequency used by air traffic control to communicate with pilots, reported the South China Morning Post.

The night program "Love Ark," which airs on Wednesdays on the Citizens’ Radio channel, started to interfere with the air traffic control frequency last month. The Hong Kong Telecommunications Authority immediately ordered the radio station to stop broadcasting the program as it could be "dangerous for air traffic." Citizens’ Radio has become popular over the past year as it often broadcasts programs engaged against the government, and its owner, much to the delight of listeners, constantly plays cat and mouse with officials of the Hong Kong administration appointed by Beijing.  (H)
