The government announced the presentation of the energy strategy, but instead only presented the already known decision regarding the location of the future liquefied natural gas terminal at Dina on the island of Krk.
Although the government created quite a confusion by announcing that it would present the energy strategy this afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polančec apologized to reporters, explaining that there was a mistake in sending the notification and that he would only present the LNG terminal project for which the best location was chosen at Dina on the island of Krk, which the government still has to confirm with its decision.
Polančec did, however, say something about the energy strategy without mentioning, of course, the nuclear option. He emphasized that Croatia meets only 40% of its gas consumption with domestic production, that we import 21% of electricity, and that we satisfy only 20% of our oil needs with domestic production.
– By 2020, greenhouse gas emissions, according to EU rules, must be 20% lower, and 10% of our energy must come from biofuels. By 2020, we will reduce the average annual energy consumption by nine percent – said Polančec, emphasizing that the energy strategy, which he claims is still being finalized, anticipates the construction of an additional 3,500 MW of energy capacity.
