Brazil Discovers Oil Near Rio de Janeiro

Petrobras, Brazil’s state oil company, has announced that it has discovered approximately 8 billion barrels of oil in the seabed near the coast of Rio de Janeiro. It is estimated that this significant find will increase Brazil’s oil reserves by 40 percent, thereby placing Brazil among the top 10 exporters of black gold.

Petrobras President Sergio Gabrielli stated that following this discovery, Brazil’s oil reserves will rank alongside those of Nigeria and Venezuela. The Tupi field is located at a depth of 2,140 meters below water, plus 3,000 meters of sand and rock, and an additional 2,000 meters of salt layer. Extracting oil from there will be a very challenging task, but Petrobras is well-equipped for this job as a leading leader in deepwater offshore oil extraction. Until now, Brazil has been ranked 17th in the world in terms of oil reserves. (HTV)
