Beautiful baroque Sicilian villas overlooking the Mediterranean are being sold for just one euro; however, there is a catch that comes with this price. Although the real estate market is thriving, this is not the case in Sicily, reports the portal index.hr.
If you become the owner of a villa for one euro, you are obliged to completely restore it, as all have been devastated since they were abandoned after the earthquake 40 years ago. This idea was conceived by Mayor Vittorio Sgarbi, who plans to solve "two birds with one stone" with this offer. The aim is to attract clientele seeking a peaceful retreat who will also restore the villas at their own expense. Naturally, before the purchase, potential buyers must be familiar with the architecture of the time and the standards according to which the restoration must take place. Dominating the beautiful view is the main culprit for the earthquake, Etna, for which there is no guarantee of a repeat disaster, but this is something one must live with. (www.index.hr)
