Russia has no intention of limiting gas and oil exports solely to Europe, but rather to expand them, stated Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in an interview reported by the Interfax agency on Sunday.
"We have no intention of limiting anything. We will strictly adhere to our contractual obligations, but we will expand and diversify our export capabilities for this product that is so necessary for the global economy," Putin said to the Russia TV station a day before an extraordinary European summit dedicated to the Georgian crisis. The EU sources about a quarter of its gas needs and some oil from Russia. (H)
