The President of HDZ, Dr. Ivo Sanader, speaking tonight in Bjelovar at the central party gathering for the 2nd electoral unit, stated that it is now “time for investment” and that in “this election, HDZ is the best investment”.
He added that HDZ "enables a leap in the economy" and emphasized that during HDZ’s government, 129 thousand jobs were created and 450 kilometers of highways were built. Stating that HDZ’s government has invested in infrastructure so far, Sanader announced that the priority in this area is the construction of a fast road, the so-called "Bilogora-Podravina Y" from Gradec to Bjelovar and Koprivnica, as well as the construction of a railway line that will allow direct travel from Bjelovar to Zagreb.
The President of HDZ also said that "the SDP, when it was in a coalition government for four years, did not learn its lesson even though it had time and was a world champion in distributing positions, so now in the SDP they do not know who will be what". Sanader concluded at the pre-election gathering that "because of this, the SDP will remain in opposition".
In a conversation with journalists before the pre-election gathering, HDZ President Ivo Sanader spoke about the party’s program, emphasizing that he opposes the introduction of new taxes and that the priority is an economic growth of 7 percent. He reminded that in agriculture, incentives have been doubled and that 750 farms have been built. Sanader stated that "farmers do not have to fear entering the EU" and that they can make good use of money from the EU pre-accession funds. Regarding retirees, Sanader said that HDZ is preparing a revolutionary initiative that will allow retirees, who wish to, to work without paying contributions and without affecting their pensions.
