Bottle of Tuscan Red Wine for $33,600

A bottle of Italian wine Ornellaia, originating from the Livorno area in Tuscany, found a buyer on Monday for $33,600 at an auction organized by Christie’s. The auction lasted 50 seconds.

The buyer of this "salmanazar," a bottle with a capacity of nine liters, is American Michael Corlinns, who specially traveled from Seattle for the occasion. At that price, a glass of wine will cost him $500. The bottle of this exquisite wine is adorned with a gilded inscription instead of a regular label. Moreover, the lucky owner of this "unique specimen" will have the right to visit the vineyard from which the wine originates and Florence. (H)
