Reduction of Deposits by 8.75 Billion Kuna During September

During September, a noticeable reduction in deposits was recorded, which was somewhat expected given the many activities in the domestic capital market, primarily the initial public offerings of T-HT shares during the observed month.

Thus, at the end of the third quarter of this year, total deposits, which include kuna and foreign currency savings and time deposits as well as deposit money, amounted to 181.5 billion kuna. Compared to the end of August, a reduction of 8.75 billion kuna was recorded. However, on an annual basis, the trend of double-digit growth continued, and in September, the annual growth rate was 12.7%, while in absolute terms, the increase amounted to 20.5 billion kuna.
Kuna and foreign currency savings and time deposits at banks at the end of September amounted to 147.21 billion kuna, which is 5.81 billion less than at the end of the previous month.

On a monthly basis, a reduction in both kuna and foreign currency deposits was recorded. Compared to the end of September 2006, the growth amounted to 15.88 billion kuna or 12.1%. Kuna savings and time deposits at the end of the observed month amounted to 47.52 billion kuna, which is 3.78 billion kuna less than at the end of the previous month. At the same time, the annual growth of kuna deposits amounted to 1.36 billion kuna or only 3%, which represents the lowest annual growth rate since the first half of 2000. Observing by domestic sectors, a reduction in kuna deposits was recorded among households and enterprises during September of 1.31 billion and 2.13 billion kuna, respectively.

Additionally, among households, an annual reduction in kuna savings of 3.71 billion kuna was recorded. Foreign currency deposits at the end of the third quarter amounted to 99.69 billion kuna, which is 2.03 billion kuna less than at the end of August. However, on an annual basis, a relatively strong growth dynamic of the observed deposits of 17% was maintained.  After a significant reduction in deposits in September, we expect to see growth in deposits (especially kuna) in the coming months, which should also be supported by banks’ efforts to finance their placements from domestic sources.
