At the University Computing Centre – Srce, the first partnership contracts were signed today within the Croatian National Grid Infrastructure (CRO NGI), coordinated by Srce and institutions that will participate in the construction of this infrastructure.
These include the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Osijek, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Split, the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Rijeka, and the Ruđer Bošković Institute, which have been granted partner status in CRO NGI, as announced by Srce. Along with Srce, these institutions participated in the completed technological project CRO-GRID Infrastructure, which established the first grid infrastructure in Croatia. The Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (MZOŠ) also holds partner status as the main sponsor and investor of the national grid infrastructure, as well as the Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNet.
Today, grid infrastructure is one of the fundamental components of any modern e-infrastructure and, together with a high-speed computing and communication network, represents the backbone of the information and communication infrastructure necessary for modern science, research, and education, as well as for other advanced systems, said the director of Srce, Zoran Bekić. CRO NGI is a comprehensive distributed computing environment primarily consisting of computing (processing) and storage (disk) resources. These resources are located in nodes that are geographically distributed across institutions in the science and higher education system in the Republic of Croatia.
