The President of the State Election Commission (DIP), Branko Hrvatin, reported today that political parties should officially inform the public about the money they plan to spend on the campaign, not DIP.
"They can do this through the media or in some other way accessible to the public. However, this must be done on behalf of the party by a person authorized according to the party statute," said Hrvatin. He added that there is no specifically prescribed way in the law for how parties will inform the public about their pre-election budgets.
"However, they cannot convey that information in interviews, as it could be understood as a personal opinion of a party official," Hrvatin said at a press conference at DIP.
"Campaign costs concern the public, not DIP," Hrvatin stated, explaining that therefore they do not expect HDZ to provide them with that data, as announced yesterday by HDZ Presidency member Ivan Šuker. Appearing on HTV, Šuker last night presented an estimate of possible HDZ campaign costs for the first time and announced that detailed data would be submitted to DIP today. (Hina)
