The European Union Accuses Turkey of Halting Reforms

According to estimates by the European Commission, democratic reforms in Turkey have largely been halted. This is stated in the annual progress report on Turkey, which the European Commission will officially publish on Tuesday, November 6.

‘The implementation of reforms is not constant and has slowed down since 2006,’ states the document that the European Commission will publish next week. ‘Turkey must accelerate and give new momentum to its political reforms,’ demands the European Union.
The warning sent by the Commission shows how much this candidate country has neglected the reforms required by Brussels. Diplomats have long warned that Turkey faces alienation from Europe. Public opinion polls show that support among the Turkish population for the country’s potential membership in the European Union has significantly decreased, reports Deutsche Welle.
