Tomorrow marks the beginning of the construction of the land-Pelješac bridge, announced Jure Radić, CEO of the Institute of Civil Engineering of Croatia, at today’s press conference. The bridge is designed for navigation by the largest ships, with a height of 55 meters and a width of 400 meters, Radić emphasized.
It will be built over four years, and its cost will be around two billion kuna, he stated, highlighting that this is the largest bridge currently under construction in Europe. The bridge will enable better connectivity of the Dubrovnik region with other parts of Croatia and will also bring the southernmost islands (Mljet, Lastovo) closer to the rest of the country, Radić pointed out. The investor for the construction is Hrvatske ceste d.o.o., the contractors are Konstruktor from Split, Viadukt, and Hidroelektra from Zagreb, and the designer is the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb.
