The Republic Union of Workers of Croatia today requested the government to dismiss the entire Supervisory Board (SB) of Croatian Post (HP) as it harms the interests of this state-owned company. The public dispute between the SB president Ivo Lončar and his deputy Dražen Breglec has damaged the reputation of HP, and the union cannot passively observe how such conflicts lead 12,000 workers to ruin, it was stated at a press conference.
This is primarily a conflict of interest, political, and regional groups, assesses the union’s vice president Željko Vidaković, and the bickering in the media is just the tip of the iceberg of irregularities and illegalities at the top of HP. HP has been incurring losses in its core business for years, and positive business reports are based solely on real estate sales. Last year, a loss of 82.3 million kuna was recorded in the core business, while in the first six months of this year, the loss amounted to 39 million kuna. The realization of investments in new projects is catastrophic – in 2005, less than 20 percent of the planned amount was realized (18.9 million kuna out of a planned 108.6 million kuna), and last year only 10 percent of the planned amount (18.8 million kuna out of 187.3 million kuna).
