Polish President Lech Kaczynski has threatened that the agreement on the new reform treaty at the EU summit could be delayed if Polish demands are not met.
"We do not want anything more than what we are entitled to," Kaczynski said to Polish radio ahead of his departure for the summit in Lisbon. When asked what would happen at the summit if Polish demands are not met, Kaczynski replied: "We will have to postpone the discussion." The main demand from Warsaw is to include the so-called Ioannina mechanism in the treaty itself, which allows for the postponement of decision-making in cases where countries opposing the decision were only a few votes short of blocking it.
