From the “Bukinac” stud farm near Novi Sad, the first of five trucks carrying a total of 66 Lipizzan horses abducted from the Lipik stud farm in 1991 set off for Croatia this afternoon, confirmed Sanja Čelebićanin, head of the Serbian Republic Veterinary Inspection, to reporters.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Croatia confirmed that the truck with the horses would enter Croatia through the border crossing in Ilok between 5 PM and 6 PM, but according to the report from HTV’s Dnevnik at 8 PM, this had not yet occurred. In August 1991, under the pretext of rescuing them, Milan Komasović took the horses from the Lipik stud farm. The horses were taken from Croatia to Serbia via Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For the past 12 years, they have been at the “Bukinac” stud farm in Novi Sad. The return of the horses to Croatia was agreed upon at the end of August in Novi Sad by the Ministers of Agriculture of Serbia and Croatia, Slobodan Milosavljević and Petar Čobanković, along with the owner of the “Bukinac” stud farm. It was also agreed that the professional services of both ministries would come to Novi Sad and jointly carry out all necessary checks, controls, and determine the health status of the Lipizzans.
