Croatian companies Ina, HEP, and Plinacro have dropped out of the consortium, which they actively participated in forming from the beginning. However, no one from the relevant Croatian companies was willing to comment on the formation of the consortium.
The OMV group has established the company Adria LNG d.o.o. with its partners, headquartered in Zagreb, with the goal of constructing an LNG receiving terminal on Krk. The consortium consists of OMV Gas International (25.58%), EON Ruhrgas (31.15%), Total (25.58%), RWE (16.69%), and Geoplina (1%), according to a statement sent by OMV. The General Director of Adria LNG d.o.o. will be Michael Mertl, and the Chairman of the Management Board will be Reinhard Mitschek.
The company will take over tasks from Adria LNG Study Company to establish detailed plans and phases for the construction of the project in Croatia. According to OMV, the construction of the planned LNG terminal on the island of Krk will enable the entire region to utilize a diverse gas supply, and it will also ensure better integration of Croatia into the European natural gas network. Additionally, this project will represent a further step in creating an LNG portfolio.
The new terminal will have an initial capacity of 10 billion cubic meters per year and will be designed for LNG tankers carrying up to 265 thousand cubic meters. After completing further research and planning, the LNG receiving terminal is expected to be ready for operation by early 2012. The final decision on this project is expected next year.
