Today in Split, the first conference on the possibilities of improving scientific and economic cooperation between the USA and Croatia and increasing American investments in biotechnology, information technology, and the pharmaceutical industry in Croatia has begun.
The Minister of Science, Education and Sports, Dragan Primorac, whose ministry is the main sponsor of the event, conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to the participants, who was unable to open the conference due to other commitments.
Expressing satisfaction with the holding of this conference, which gathered around 150 scientists and businesspeople, including 30 speakers from the USA and Croatia, Minister Primorac particularly emphasized that Croatia is a country open to all investments, as well as new insights in the education and training of its experts and scientists, many of whom obtain their scientific titles in the USA.
Croatian scientist in the USA, Danica Ramljak, director of Medora Global Consultants in Virginia, stated that the goal of the four-day conference is to determine the guidelines for a future strategy to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation between the two countries and to increase trade in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and information and communication technology.
The conference will feature prominent scientists, professors, deans, rectors, and businesspeople from the USA and Croatia, including David Wetherell, Gray F. Handly, Lee J. Helman, and Steven Pavletić.
The event was also welcomed by Ante Sanader, the prefect of the Split-Dalmatia County, one of the co-organizers of the conference. Prefect Sanader stated that Dalmatia is ideal for foreign investors as it currently has 39 entrepreneurial and as many as 90 tourist zones. (Hina)
