The German luxury car manufacturer BMW could create a fourth automotive brand, alongside the existing BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce, reported Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
The new brand will be one of the topics of the review of the future business strategy, the details of which will be announced soon, FAZ learns, also citing claims from sources that BMW will not purchase Volvo from the American manufacturer Ford.
The German weekly Capital reported on Thursday that BMW’s revised strategy will focus on enhancing productivity and does not include a demand for significant job cuts. Among BMW’s priorities will be new technologies for reducing pollution, Capital learns, without citing the source of its information. This German business group plans to launch several new models, including a mini compact vehicle, a mini SUV, and a smaller Rolls-Royce to increase sales and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the weekly notes.
Changes in the business are also expected to enable the company to achieve its targeted sales of 1.6 million as early as 2009, one year ahead of the planned deadline. (H)
