Borse Dubai and Nasdaq announced on Wednesday that they have raised their offer to acquire the Nordic exchange operator OMX to $4.9 billion (€3.5 billion), and that they have secured nearly half of the shares in OMX.
In a joint statement, it was noted that Borse Dubai increased its offer for OMX shares by 15%, to 265 kronor ($40.9). The two exchange operators announced a week ago that they had reached an agreement regarding the OMX group. According to the agreement, Borse Dubai will receive 19.99% of the shares in Nasdaq, while Nasdaq will take a strategic stake in the Dubai International Financial Exchange, which is under the umbrella of the Dubai exchange holding.
The initial offer from Nasdaq was announced in May, and a few months later it was surpassed by Borse Dubai’s offer, raising OMX share prices to new all-time highs. On Wednesday, their price reached 276 kronor. OMX, the largest exchange operator in the Nordic and Baltic region, manages exchanges in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, and the three Baltic capitals of Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius. (H)
