Vipnet has introduced the Vip over IP service, which combines mobile and internet telephony. The Vip over IP service allows users to make calls from a computer connected to the internet, enabling them to call users who have the Vip over IP program on their computer, as well as other mobile and landline phone numbers.
Service users can connect to the internet via Vipnet’s mobile broadband solutions or through any other service provider. However, unlike other VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service providers, users of the Vip over IP service will retain their ‘mobile identity’ when calling mobile and landline networks from their personal computers, meaning that the caller’s number will be displayed to the person being called, explained Vipnet’s CEO Marie-Helene Magenschab.
According to research results from the analytical firm Analyses Research presented at today’s Vip over IP service launch, by 2015, one-third of all ‘mobile’ and 42 percent of all ‘mobile and fixed minutes’ in Western Europe will be realized via the internet, i.e., VoIP. Vipnet sees this as its opportunity in the Croatian market, where currently, says Marie-Helene Magenschab, 22 percent of citizens are aware of VoIP and use it, 72 percent have heard of VoIP, and six percent do not know what VoIP is. As announced, all Vipnet ‘prepaid’ and ‘postpaid’ users will be able to use the Vip over IP solution for voice communication and SMS messages. (H)
