Organized by the ‘Ruđer Bošković’ Institute and the University of Split, and under the patronage of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, a conference titled ‘Categories in geometry and in mathematical physics’ will be held in Split from September 23 to 29.
Among the thirty invited speakers, the French-Russian mathematician Maxim Kontsevich, a recipient of the Fields Medal – a sort of Nobel Prize in the field of mathematics – will also be present in Split, and is undoubtedly the leading mathematician in the world today.
Approximately eighty mathematicians and physicists from about fifteen countries in Europe, America, and Australia will participate in this most prestigious gathering in the field of mathematics ever held in Croatia. The conference will be dedicated to category theory, one of the central areas of contemporary pure mathematics, which finds applications in numerous other branches of science such as physics, biology, computing, and even linguistics.
