DigitalGlobe, the primary supplier of satellite imagery for Google Earth, has announced the launch of a new satellite named WorldView-1. Together with the existing DigitalGlobe satellite Quickbird, WorldView-1 will offer a resolution of half a meter and will be capable of collecting over 600 square kilometers of images each day, while the existing satellite required an entire week to cover such an area.
The launch of the WorldView-1 satellite is scheduled for Tuesday, and the entire event will be available for streaming online. The company has already announced plans to launch a second satellite from the WorldView line by the end of next year. (M.N.)
