The British Chancellor of the Exchequer intends to introduce a “purchase tax” of up to £2,000 for vehicles that most heavily pollute the air, as well as a similar rebate for fuel-efficient cars, reports the “Sunday Times”.
According to the “Times”, the pre-budget report that Chancellor Alistair Darling is expected to submit soon includes a proposal for a rebate of up to £2,000 for fuel-efficient cars. Some official sources believe that this proposal will be difficult to implement, but emphasize that such measures would “strengthen the environmental signal sent by the government”.
