Due to too much work, workaholics sleep too little, which negatively affects their health, as well as their work performance and career. This was confirmed by a recently published American study conducted on 47,731 respondents.
A team of experts from the University of Pennsylvania, led by Mathias Basner, conducted telephone surveys for three years, asking respondents how they spend their time. In their study ‘Sleep’, they concluded that employees who sleep no more than four and a half hours a day work, on average, 93 minutes longer on weekdays and even 118 minutes longer on weekends than average ‘sleepers’. The survey showed that individuals who dedicate themselves to their work tasks in shorter periods sleep more. Thus, employees who sleep more than eleven and a half hours work 143 minutes shorter than average on weekdays and 71 minutes shorter on weekends. Research leader Mathias Basner commented that such results show that working hours play an important role in sleep duration. Without enough sleep, he noted, there is no health. (T. V).
