Project for the Construction of a Gymnasium and Sports Hall Launched Based on the PPP Model

The beginning of the new school year in Koprivnica was marked by the opening of the new building of the Fran Galović Gymnasium and sports hall, constructed under the public-private partnership model, inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor.

The Koprivnica-Križevci County and the City of Koprivnica initiated the project for the construction of a gymnasium and sports hall in Koprivnica based on the public-private partnership model, and after two years of preparation and one year of construction, the school was completed and equipped within the planned timeframe, designed to operate in one shift for 900 students. In the school part of this building, 75 school spaces were constructed, including 35 classrooms, 28 offices, 9 specialized classrooms, a library, a staff room, and a multimedia hall.

In front of about two thousand guests, including around 700 students from the Koprivnica gymnasium and their teachers, Jadranka Kosor reminded that the government this year provided free textbooks for all elementary school students, and for first-year high school students, free textbooks, transportation, and accommodation in dormitories, for which 450 million kuna was allocated from the state budget. The opening ceremony was attended by the envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia Boris Šprem, Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polančec, members of parliament, as well as the mayor of Koprivnica Zvonimir Mršić and the Koprivnica-Križevci County prefect Josip Friščić.

For the construction of the gymnasium and sports hall, the City of Koprivnica provided a construction site of 23,898 square meters, financed the project documentation worth 2.8 million kuna, and exempted the investor from paying the communal contribution. The clients for the construction of the facility, with a net area of 11,670 square meters, are the Koprivnica-Križevci County, which is the client for 61.5 percent of the space for school needs, an area of 7,180 square meters, and the City of Koprivnica, which is the client for 38.5 percent of the space for additional needs of the sports hall, an area of 4,490 square meters. The Koprivnica-Križevci County will pay a monthly rent of nearly 546 thousand kuna for the rental of school space, while the City of Koprivnica will pay nearly 299 thousand kuna monthly for the rental of additional space.

The City and the County will annually pay a total of 10.132 million kuna in rent to the company Tehnika, which built the facility and will maintain it for the next 25 years. The company Tehnika was financed by Hypo Alpe-Adria Bank, whose CEO Radojka Olić stated after the ceremonial opening that they are proud to have participated in this project. This bank also donated didactic and IT equipment to the Koprivnica gymnasium. Podravka d.d. Koprivnica also contributed to the equipping of the facility by procuring audio-visual and IT equipment worth more than half a million kuna. (H)
