The President of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić, opened the largest world gathering of electronic content experts on Saturday in Brijuni, which brought together participants from 35 countries around the world.
Namely, Brijuni will host top global experts in electronic content until September 7, at the largest global gathering of its kind and will be the host of the Grand Jury of the World Summit Award 2007.
Addressing the Jury members, President Mesić expressed his satisfaction that this Grand Jury summit is being held in Croatia, as it has gathered experts from all continents who, as he stated, “represent the unity of diversity.” “I believe that this is of exceptional importance for Croatia’s image, and for this reason, Croatia can be proud of hosting, as the Grand Jury of the World Summit Award is a unique gathering of global professionals that will provide insight into trends and the level of development of electronic content and creativity worldwide,” Mesić stated.
The World Summit Award is a global initiative established in 2002 aimed at selecting and promoting the best global e-content, and the gathering of the Grand Jury in Brijuni is the third such meeting since the establishment of the World Summit Award in support of the United Nations summit on the information society. Previous gatherings of the Grand Jury were held in 2003 in Dubai and in 2005 in Bahrain.
According to the President of the Internet Institute and a member of the Grand Jury, Krešimir Lugarić, Croatian teams achieved notable results in both competitions. Specifically, among the awarded global projects in 2003 was the project “Blue World,” while two years later, the project “Kopački rit” in the e-learning category and “Fauna” in the e-science category received recognition.
