Among the deceased and injured in the fires ravaging Greece, there are no Croatian citizens, and due to the state of emergency declared in that country, tourist travel is not recommended, said Željko Belaj, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MVPEI), on Sunday for Hina.
"Among the victims of the fires in Greece, there are no Croats… and due to the disaster that has led to the declaration of a state of emergency, MVPEI does not recommend tourist or other travel to that country," said Belaj. Greece is an attractive tourist destination for Croats, and visits by high school graduates from classical gymnasiums have been a long-standing tradition, but the position of MVPEI is that there is no purpose in visiting any country where a state of emergency has been declared, explained the ministry spokesperson. In the fires in Greece, the deadliest in the world in the last 150 years, about 50 people have lost their lives so far. The most severe, almost apocalyptic situation is in the Peloponnese. EU countries have come to Greece’s aid, and the government in Athens has requested additional assistance from Russia and the USA. (Hina)
