Considering that corn is the main source of animal feed, and due to drought years there is a shortage of corn for these purposes on the market, the Government has proposed that from now on a tariff of 108 euros per ton be applied to corn exports.
This would discourage the export of remaining stocks of domestic corn in conditions of reduced supply and with rising corn prices. Such a measure has also been introduced by Serbia, and it is expected that the EU may adopt it as well.
The Government has also proposed tightening penalties for individuals who cause fires, with fines reaching up to one million kuna. Specifically, for individuals who cause a fire, the penalty ranges from 100,000 to one million kuna or imprisonment from 30 to 60 days. If a fire is caused by negligence, the penalty is from 10,000 to 50,000 kuna. A person who, for example, does not participate in extinguishing the fire and rescue efforts, if the property owner does not maintain the premises in proper condition, or certain devices, etc., will be fined from 1,000 to 3,000 kuna or face imprisonment for 30 days.
The Law on Commercial Companies will also undergo changes. For instance, it proposes the abolition of bearer securities, in line with global solutions in the fight against money laundering. The aim is also to create greater freedom for organizing entrepreneurship, the possibility of choosing between two management systems – monistic or dualistic, and to regulate issues related to the reserves of capital companies, etc. Thus, only amounts arising from the net profit of the business year or from retained earnings from previous years may be included in the reserves from profits. The Law also regulates the possibility of acquiring own shares, which is only possible based on the authority of the general assembly, with only a few exceptions. The Law also brings changes to the regulation of all elements during the merger of companies. (L. K.)
