French President Nicolas Sarkozy was a guest of two wealthy families in a luxury villa in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, writes the French daily newspaper “Le Monde” on Saturday.
Sarkozy called the newspaper himself on Friday and said that the villa owned by Mike Appel, former CEO of Microsoft, was “rented by his friends, the Cromback and Agostinelli families who invited them to come with their children” for a price of 44,000 euros for two weeks.
The newspaper writes that Agnes Cromback is the president of the jewelry store Tiffany-France, while Mathilda Agostinelli is the spokesperson for the Italian fashion house Prada in France and a close friend of Cecilia Sarkozy, the president’s wife, and her husband Roberto is a banker.
Le Monde emphasizes that it took waiting until the end of the president’s two-week vacation in the United States for the public to learn who the president’s friends were, whose identity was hidden “almost like a state secret,” unlike in America where journalists accredited to the White House closely follow the activities of their president, even during the annual vacation, and in Great Britain, Spain, and Germany, the total costs of the president’s summer vacation are a topic of special announcements.
