The German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom (DT) plans to cut 2,000 of a total of 6,500 jobs at its headquarters in Bonn over the next few years, as reported by the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
A company spokesperson, as stated by the newspaper, declined to comment on the job cuts but said that "efforts to increase efficiency" would also affect the company’s headquarters. Deutsche Telekom is the largest telecommunications group in Europe, employing 249,000 people in 50 countries at the end of 2006. However, it has faced challenges in the German market due to increased competition, losing a significant number of customers to rivals. Berliner Zeitung reports that the job cuts will occur by 2009.
