Rohatinski: The 12 Percent Limit Remains in 2008

As stated by the governor of the Croatian National Bank, Željko Rohatinski, in an interview for the new issue of the Lider weekly, the measure of a 12 percent increase in lending will remain in effect next year, and banks will be able to increase lending by one percent each month.

The extent to which banks adhere to this will also determine the further policy of the central bank, and it is not excluded that this measure may be relaxed and that, according to previous promises, the reserve requirement rate or the marginal reserve requirement may be lowered. Otherwise, the introduction of the measure limiting the growth of lending to 12 percent a month ago has already yielded initial results, with lending growth in July, compared to June, slowing by 0.3 percent. More details on the topic can be read in the new printed issue of Lider.
