Finnish operator Elisa has chosen Ericsson to supply network equipment that will double the coverage and capacity of its existing WCDMA/HSPA network.
According to the contract, Ericsson will double the number of radio base stations in Elisa’s network over the coming year. More than 120 cities will be covered by the 3G network by the end of the year, which will solidify Elisa’s leadership in the 3G/HSPA sector in Finland. Elisa selected Ericsson for this expansion project after successfully conducting test operations earlier this year. The contract also includes services, implementation, integration, and training. Ericsson’s HSPA solution (High-Speed Packet Access) enables higher data transfer speeds by enhancing the uplink and downlink connections. This advanced technology increases network capacity and reduces the response time of interactive services, thereby improving the performance of mobile broadband access.
This expansion is a result of the growing interest in 3G services in Finland. Since March 2006, Finland has increased its use of 3G technology more than any other European country. Elisa is the largest Finnish operator and the leading provider of broadband access in the country.
