Germany’s trade exchange with the rest of the world increased in June of this year, with exports continuing to outpace imports, and the trade balance showed a surplus of 16.5 billion euros, according to preliminary data released on Wednesday.
According to estimates from the German Federal Office in Wiesbaden, the value of German exports in June amounted to 82 billion euros, šwhich is 12 percent higher year-on-year. At the same time, imports increased by nine percent, reaching a value of 65.5 billion euros. For comparison, in June 2006, Germany’s trade balance was in surplus by 13.1 billion euros.
According to seasonally adjusted data from that office, exports from the largest European economy increased by two percent compared to the previous month, while imports rose by seven percent. Preliminary data from the German central bank, Bundesbank, show a surplus on the current account of 16.6 billion euros in June of this year. For comparison, in the same month of the previous year, it amounted to 12.0 billion euros. (H)
