The President of the SDP, Zoran Milanović, announced on Wednesday that the SDP will, after the elections, establish a new model for parliamentary pensions based on European practices. “Current parliamentary pensions do not meet the expectations of Croatian citizens, as they are not deserved,” said Milanović at a press conference in Čakovec.
The model that the SDP plans to introduce would involve the retirement of representatives, while their time spent in parliament or in state duties would be compensated through a special supplementary system, it was announced by the SDP. Milanović also assessed in Čakovec that Croatia is overly centralized and that the main goal of the SDP’s decentralization policy is to double the revenues of local self-government. Commenting on the data regarding economic growth, he stated that it clearly indicates that the HDZ has not revitalized Croatia, as noted in the announcement. When asked to comment on possible coalitions in the parliamentary elections, he reminded that the SDP’s position is to run independently in the elections. However, this does not mean a rejection for anyone, but is a common behavior in developed European democracies, explained Milanović. "After the elections, we will sit down with potential partners to discuss the composition of the new Government," said the president of the SDP. (H)
